A Simple Testimony

I wrote this the day my baby was blessed recently, and thought I’d share.

I couldn’t let today pass by without sharing my gratitude for my Savior and His gospel.

Someone recently asked me what it was like being sealed in the temple. I explained that leading up to that day, I knew I wanted to marry Brandon and I felt so much peace whenever I prayed about it – but for some reason I was really nervous for weeks leading up to our wedding day. For those of you who may not know, being sealed in the temple is for time and all eternity – not just until death do you part. And eternity is a long time hahahaha

But, the day of our wedding, the moment I walked into the sealing room – I felt so loved. Loved by Brandon, loved by all the people who were inside and outside the temple supporting us, but most of all loved by our Heavenly Father and Savior. I just thought – this is what it’s all about. It is because of our Heavenly Fathers plan and our Savior’s sacrifice that we can be with our families forever.

And now, every time one of these sweet babies joins our family, I think of that day. The love and joy that I felt on our wedding day was only a small glimpse of the love and joy I will get to feel here on earth and in the eternities with my family.

I know the blessings of the temple are real. I know the ordinances we participate in and the covenants we make in the temple have real power and only strengthen our knowledge of and relationship with our Savior Jesus Christ. My covenant relationship with Him is where I find the hope and strength to get through hard times. It is where I find peace in a chaotic and noisy world. It is worth every sacrifice I have to make to live worthily to enter the temple.

I know that my Savior, Jesus Christ lives. I know that He has felt every joy, every temptation, every heartache and every pain I have ever and will ever feel. He descended below it all to know how to help me. He sacrificed himself and paid the ultimate price for all of our sins, and made it possible for us to overcome both spiritual and physical death because He loves us and He knew each of us were worth it. He wants each and every one of us to return home to Him and our Heavenly Father, and for each of us to have a fullness of joy.

I know all these things are true by of power of the Holy Ghost. And it is by that same power that I know the Bible and the Book of Mormon contain the word of God. I feel their truth every time I open their pages and study their doctrine. Because I know the Book of Mormon is the word of God, I also know Joseph Smith was the prophet of the restoration. No man on earth could simply write such an inspired book or do what he did to usher in the fullness of times. I know that He saw God the Father and His son Jesus Christ, and that priesthood keys were restored to him by the laying on of hands from Peter James and John so that whatever is sealed on earth is also sealed in heaven. I know that by the power of God, he translated ancient gold plates which are what we know today as the Book of Mormon.

I know President Russell M Nelson is the prophet of God on the earth today and by following His counsel we can be protected from the evils and uncertainty in the world. He receives revelation and speaks for the Savior to guide His church.

I know the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the true, fully restored kingdom of God on the earth today. I know it contains the fullness of the Saviors gospel. I know it is true, I know it is worth it, and I know by living according to its laws, ordinances, and principles we can have a fullness of joy and return as families to live with our Father in Heaven again.
